Investment markets – looking through the volatility

Investment market performance over the past two months has been characterised by high levels of volatility. This has been driven by ongoing uncertainty over a possible deterioration in Europe’s sovereign debt problems. Share markets and other growth assets dislike uncertainty and traditionally perform poorly when confronted with an outlook that is unclear. This article reviews market performance as we approach year end and the reasons why long-term investors should maintain a diversified portfolio of investments during periods of market volatility.
