State Super Financial Services Australia Limited (also referred to as 'State Super Financial Services', 'we', 'us' or 'our') is bound by the National Privacy Principles established under the Privacy Act, 1988 (the 'Act').

How Do We Collect This Information?
Generally, we collect personal information directly from you but we may on occasion collect information about you from your spouse or partner, or from someone who knows you. We may collect personal information about you in face to face interviews, over the telephone, over the Internet, on forms completed by you, when you write to us or when you attend our seminars. From time to time additional and/or updated personal information may be collected through one or more of these methods. Personal information may also be received or obtained externally from third parties such as government agencies.
The information that is collected through our website is only the details which you provide either through completing an online form or sending us an e-mail. It is our policy to only e-mail you if you request that we do so.
This information may be stored to secure computer storage facilities in order to provide the service you have requested. If your information is stored in this way it is protected from unauthorised access through the use of passwords only, or user ids and passwords.
Why Do We Collect Personal Information?
As a financial planning organisation and as the trustee of our managed investment schemes and superannuation funds, we are subject to the Corporations Act and other legislative and regulatory requirements which necessitate us collecting, holding and using relevant information that personally identifies you. Furthermore, our ability to provide you with financial planning advice and ongoing service is dependent on us obtaining certain personal information about you.
State Super Financial Services only collects personal information that is necessary:
a. to provide you with financial planning advice and ongoing service;
b. to establish and administer the financial products and services that you acquire;
c. for internal administration, including development of new products & services, systems development & testing & accounting functions;
d. to comply with various legal, statutory and regulatory obligations;
e. to forward to you material about our products and services that may be of interest to you;
f. for fraud investigation and prevention; and
g. for conducting market research/customer satisfaction surveys
You have the right not to provide personal information to us. If you do not, it may affect the appropriateness of the financial advice given or your ability to obtain a financial product made available by us.
You can contact us and request not to receive direct marketing material about our products and services.
What Information Do We Collect?
Personal information collected by us may include:
- name, address, date of birth, contact details;
- employment details and employment history;
- details of your financial needs and objectives;
- details of your current financial circumstances, including your assets and liabilities (both actual and potential), income, expenditure, taxation information, insurance and superannuation;
- details of your investment preferences and aversion or tolerance to risk;
- information about your family commitments and social security eligibility; and
- limited health information about you
The only information collected whilst using this site, is the information you provide to us, for example, by completing an online form or sending us an email. We do not collect information you enter when using interactive devices on our site, for example, the unit price calculator or budget planner.
Our web server collects information for statistical purposes such as the number of users who visit the website, the date and time of visits, and the pages viewed. This is anonymous statistical data and no attempt is made to identify users or their browsing activities. We use this data to evaluate our website performance and to improve the content we display to you.
Who Do We Disclose Personal Information To?
We may disclose personal information collected about you to the following:
- external service providers, for example our professional advisers, who assist us in providing financial planning and funds management services;
- other financial institutions in order to facilitate payments (distributions, redemptions pension payments etc);
- your executor, attorney or accountant;
- other superannuation funds or financial institutions (if you are transferring funds);
- government bodies, including the Australian Taxation Office, Centrelink, Department of Veterans' Affairs, Office of State Revenue and Australian Securities & Investments Commission; and
- mailing houses in order to mail account statements and annual reports and other information if required.
How Do We Hold Personal Information?
We understand the importance of keeping personal information secure. We hold personal information in a combination of secure computer storage facilities and paper based files and other records and take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We will destroy or de-identify personal information when it is no longer needed by us.
How Do We Keep Personal Information Accurate And Up-To-Date?
It is important that the personal information we hold about you is accurate and up-to-date. We realise that information changes frequently with changes of address and other personal circumstances. We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible in order to update any personal information we hold about you. Our contact details are set out below.
How Will We Handle Requests For Access To Personal Information?
You may at any time request access to your personal information and we will provide you with access to that information. Your right to access this information however is subject to certain exceptions contained in the Act, for example, if the information relates to existing or anticipated legal proceedings. We will, prior to providing access in accordance with this policy, require you to provide evidence of your identity.

In certain circumstances we may decline your request to access your personal information. Should this occur, we will provide you with an explanation in writing within 14 days after declining your request. In accordance with the Act we reserve the right to charge you for providing access to any personal information we hold about you.

We will acknowledge your enquiry or complaint within 14 days after receipt and will endeavour to address your enquiry or complaint in a prompt manner. All enquiries and complaints are referred to our internal Enquiries and Complaints Committee.
It is our intention to resolve any complaint to your satisfaction, however, if you are unhappy with our response, you are entitled to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner who may investigate your complaint further.
